Every successful person begins with two beliefs; The future can better than the present, and I have the power to make it so. In Nakuru, a town in Kenya, Africa, many children live in poverty and lack the chance of an education and many of the necessities of life. So They Can is a nonprofit sponsoring organisation. Wanaka is a wealthy town, where people spend thousands of dollars on items such as a new car. That kind of money could be further used to sponsor many children who are in poverty or to help a village to get back on its feet. I believe we should work for a cause, not for applause.

FUNDRAISING is a method used to raise awareness and get the community to work together to donate to give a child a fair chance at life. ‘Education is the strongest tool for changing poverty’. From the age of nine, I started asking my parents if we could sponsor a child, but we never got around to it. Now that I am 15, I have decided to sponsor a child. And I am already on the road to being able to sponsor two children. By doing so the child is able to have a proper education, clothing, and food for a year. To get this far, I have connected with a local person, Sarah Holmes. he has sponsored other children through So They Can. To some of us, she is a mother, to others, she is a friend, but to me, she is that special person who has inspired me and helped make my dream a reality. One of the many fundraisers that I will be doing is the upcoming Peak to Peak multisport race. I will be doing the race in a team with my mother and my stepfather. Currently, we have raised $—-

By sponsoring a child you are providing them with the basics that will give them a fair starting point in life, such as clothing, stationery and an education. It takes only $15.40 per a week, to help a child for a year, this may seem like a lot to us as students but overall, it isn’t that much. You get lots back from providing for and sponsoring a child, such as their school reports, the opportunity to contact them, watching them learn and grow and achieve great heights. After sponsoring a child you have the opportunity to visit them in Nakuru, Kenya.

So they can, is a nonprofit organisation, meaning that every cent goes to the children. After 7 years, together with a team of people from Wanaka, Sydney and Kenya, they have helped create an organisation that looks after over 400,000 people. This blows my mind and it makes me so excited to now be a part of this team. They raise around 2.5 million dollars a year to implement kindness and to change poverty through education, making our world a better place.

Through this project, I am trying to help those in need, by turning my can’ts into cans and dreams into plans. This fundraiser has been beneficial for me and it is one of the most important things in my life. Sometimes, we are tested. Not to show our weaknesses, but to discover our strengths, so let’s just give a little.
